History

On July 3rd, 2001 e.v. Michael P. Bertiaux, Patriarch of the Ecclesia Gnostica Spiritualis and head of the Neo-Pythagorean Gnostic Church of Illinois, consecrated Isabel Munksgaard Berg and Bjarne Salling Pedersen into the espicopate of the church.

It had been a wish with the episcopate of the Ecclesia Gnostica Spiritualis, since the days of Bishop Marc Lully back in the 1970ies, to re-establish a Danish Luciferian Church and carry on the magical current from Carl William Hansen (Ben Kadosh) and his Naassenic Gnostic Synod. The first progressive steps in this work was carried out in 2001 e.v. A period of contemplation and structuralization was required and the official formation of the Neo-Luciferian Church was proclaimed by Bishop Pedersen in the winther of 2004-2005 e.v. as a system containing Seven Grades.

The Grades are not strictly hierarchic in the spiritual sense, since both the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Grades are Bishops proper in the old traditions of the Gnostic Churches. But for organisational reasons it was necessary to appoint a formal leader (VI°), and a spiritual advisor and protector of the Church (VII°). Bishop Pedersen assummed office as Sixth Grade in the N.L.C. and Bishop Berg, of organisational reasons, assummed office in the Fifth, so the initiatory current could be fully established.

On February 2nd, 2005 e.v. Bishop Bertiaux assummed office in the Seventh and Final Grade of the Church and thereby completed the circle. The ancient European traditions of Luciferian Gnosticism had been brough back under the wings of the Ecclesia Gnostica Spiritualis.

The series of Grades are:

I°      - Light Bearer
II°     - Deacon/Deaconess
III°    - Priest/Priestess
IV°    - High Priest/High Priestess
V°     - Bishop (from among the Bishops is elected: - VI° Arch Bishop and Church Leader, and:
                                                                              - VII° Honorary Arch Bishop and Spiritual Advisor)

Seven Grades for seven is the number of Venus, the morningsstar.

Seven Grades for 1+2+3+4+5+6+7 = 28, which is the mystic number of Netzach, a Sephira attributed to Venus in the Qabalah.

Seven Grades for the number 28 is the third perfect number and three is attributed to Binah, a Sephira denoting the Great Mother in her Scarlet Dress, our mother Aurora, the dawn, whom Lucifer heralds.
